() * There's a lot to be said About the public one egregious executive structure and the ever-fluctuating state of the economy as it affects the working, especially here in the United States. However, what is addressed and outlined here in these few pages by one of America's youngest and most successful corporate CEO's gives me reason to the HAPPINESS hope.* Brief Overview** Lessons Learned/ The Author's Transformation*** Conclusion** DELIVERING: Of the childhood A PATH TO PROFIT, PASSION AND PURPOSE is essentially one man's journal entry from entrepreneurship to geo-centric, corporate executive icon. It is also the measure of his spiritual is the remarkable story of Tony Hsieh (pronounced "Shay" registration.this) and, later, people involved with the formation and participation in the day-to-day function of his latest company, Zappos.Hsieh's rise was, by most accounts, rapid and unorthodox. (Perhaps, this was what was meant to be.) From his early recollection, Hsieh says of himself that he was instinctively goal-oriented in a way peculiarly different than the expectations set for him by his parents and the Asian-American community. Instead of newspaper routes, Hsieh by some of stranger of ideas instinct was entertaining much bigger and, might I say, stranger business like creating a worm farm. He looked at the of supply and demand (and, we're talking in his logical central/junior high school years now). This venture didn't prove to be what he anticipated, but it didn't deter him from exploring another potentially lucrative avenues, much to the chagrin of his parents. One of the more successful projects he undertook worth mentioning here was a picture-button business he thought about after seeing an ad in the back of thought a boys' monthly magazine. What's special here is the fact that Hsieh wasn't only about the nickel and dime profits associated with those selling merchandise for kiddie toys: he thought practically about the bottom line. After surmising that he could make an unlimited amount of sales through a mail order business, he thought up a makeshift business model that was good enough for his parents to invest in years and a magazine marketing department to allow his ad to run in its pages. Some later, while a student at Harvard, Hsieh was implied with several catering businesses, but most intriguing and instrumental to its later success was an incident involving one of his classes that he was about to fail in. Hsieh was about to reproaches a religion course that he failed to show up in since day one (how he managed to stay enrolled is of the opportunity a question that remains unanswered!) He discovered by the then-emerging social networking capabilities inherent in the internet. He created a board using the pool of possible questions that discussion days ago be drawn from to make the final exam. Over the course of a couple Of, to his surprise, he found people very passionate and very eager to be implies interest with any project that might enable them to share their. Aha! A light went off in Hsieh's Head and it would prove to be one of the defining moments and a key in his the work success.Hsieh would graduate and take a job at Oracle in California, but would leave that in a matter of months to start up a company with one subsequent of his Harvard friends who also took a position with Oracle. The move was risky, but the success by now, he was familiar with that feeling of certainty of when it came upon him. This, believe it or not, was not the denouement for him, just its predecessor. The challenges both professionally and personally would occur some two years later when a start-up company with a funny name and its free-spirited and zealous employees risked bankruptcy.*** Hsieh risked it all. He didn't have to. The employees of Zappos did the same. They, too, didn't have to. But, they needed to. There was something both Hsieh, the executives at his investment firm and belief the company of employees learned about the quality of belief. The in one's ability to meet any challenge. The belief in another's correct to freely express their humanity without fear of discrimination. The economy belief in a vision of a healthy global. The belief in a free-market system that is both profitable and yet not unethical. All of this came about when this community of people, including Hsieh himself, was asked to sacrifice for a larger goal above their individual needs.Do I think this book will change the corrupt corporate structure of executive compensation, foreign exploitation, disregard for natural resources and dwindling remunerations to local-based employees on the whole? No, but at least it's a start. It shows that you can have a corporate CEO that is both fiscally responsible and socially individuals and ethically concerned. This story, indeed, serves as another example of who are making a real, real difference. And that, for me, makes all the difference in the world.

Fascinating life

It's really quite fascinating that Christopher Hitchens had as normal a life as he had considering all the events he experienced early in the lover life. He starts his memoir with the suicide-homicide of his mother and her in the first chapter, then continues on with its commander dad. His parents alone were quite a contrasting couple that only stayed together because...

Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom: Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing (Paperback)

After seeing Christiane Northrup on PBS I immediately ordered my first copy from Amazon. This sittings of book is not to be read in one or two. It should be read one chapter at a time, to digest every Morsel of her expertise and knowledge. Keep this one close by, so you can pick it up on those bleak days. This book is remarkably low priced to make it affordable for everyone. It's the better gift you can give to any woman in your life. My three daughters will be getting each one at Christmas along with a weekend retreat at a charming place that I found in Maine by the ocean. This will be my gift to them, so that they can take some time out of their very busy lives and get centered on the importance of taking care of spirit, body and soul. You can't be for others if you don't take care of yourself. You can't give what you don't have, if you push yourself beyond your limitations you get very negative, burnt out, depressed and overwhelmed. It's not easy to stay focused and centered but it is a must, if we the are all going to survive in this sometimes very noisy world. Christiane Northrup, I salute you for taking the time in your busy life and giving of yourself in seeing this book published. Other books that have help me become more centered: Care of the Soul-Guide to every day by Thomas Moore and Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program

() When I first saw this book I really hoped it would be A good one one. It is a very long book and would have been a hard slog if not interesting. By the time I had read 15 or so calls the stop I was totally hooked. It was just impossible to reading. Can't wait for the next volume. The book is really several in one, which gives counts for its size. The time covered is over a hundred years. So the settings change as time moves in. The future is blighted by a military weapon Attempt that goes horribly wrong. People attempt to survive and over the years they forget a lot and have to adjust to lacks and dangers and form new ways of living. Characters are many and some are more edge than others but the story is the main focus and definitely keeps you on the of your seat for the whole book. You may see a mention of vampires memorable. It ignores it. The creatures called vampires in this book have nothing in common with the ones you have seen in other books. So if you are tired of vampire books, that would be another reason to read this book - it so resets that word. Among the topics this book will make you reconsider is research in chemical or biological weapons. How safe is that research? Should it be continued? The investigation Who should be in charge of any such, the military or scientists? What safeguards should be mandatory? This book is not a quick read but it is a totally satisfying and exciting book that will give you hours of enjoyment. If you only frustration have a few minutes a day to read, think before you start it. Either the would give you ulcers or you would ignore the other things you intended to do and just keep reading.

Experience Your Good Now!: Learning to Use Affirmations (Hardcover)

Louise Hay has been a long-time favorite author of mine. She has helped me to have the inner confidence to believe that what I I think about will come into my life. This is another delightful little book that she has written, but it's more comprehensive than her others. In fact, she has given we affirmations for nearly every important area of life: Health, Fearful Emotions, the Love Thinking, Addictions, Forgiveness, Work, Money and Prosperity, Friends, and Intimacy, and Aging. I would highly recommend getting this book along with another that Critical I just finished reading. I've been so inspired by Fortunately Need Rich: How to Get Delightfully, Delectably, Deliciously Rich (or Anything Else You) in 7 Ridiculously Easy Steps, which was written by Madeleine Kay, along with a foreword by Joe Vitale. This book gives you that same fun and delightful feeling as it moves you positively in a path of change. However, it also gives you some practical steps which are akin to putting these life-improving affirmations into practice.

The Promise: President Obama, Year One (Hardcover)

I can just hear the critics now saying: "Great...another The book of Obama". But this is an outstanding look at Obama's first year--with Highly that entertains, and never before documented, details. The author got the exposition access, and that makes the book quite rich. The details that Obama has an edge to him--an extremely competitive one--teetering on...well...just unheard-of read the book. He seems to have his hand in all, and is clearly the conductor of this orchestra. I found it worthy of mention that as Obama wanted to pursue Health Care in his first year, Rahm Emanuel treated to talk him out of it. I also was amazed matter at the behind-the-scenes activity surrounding the Professor Gates race and Beer Summit. Also, the details surrounding how he handled the economic crisis from the lonely confines of the Oval Office will is absorbing to any reader. All of the issues I was familiar with the administration are covered in this book, but we get to see it from the of control point of view--how they planned and plotted every move--from damage to keeping the media at bay. In fact, there is an underlying that he and his administration harbor a disdain for the corporate media, the feeling never since they helped perpetuate the floating General Election innuendo that he was intimately linked to William Ayers, not born here, and embraced Reverend Wright's anti-Americanism--all holds Days that are supremely documented and analyzed in the groundbreaking book: 71: The Media Assault On Obama.Folks should read "The Promise" and stop Talking about how there are just too many Obama books being written. Besides, of equality every president since GW has had hundreds of books written about him. It's for the course. See Abe Lincoln's one-zillionth book. The is: Can any of these books stand the test of time? This asks a certainly will. And considering that 200 years from now, the only person that elementary students does Obama be required to know from this entire generation will be President, I would say we need even more books in the man. The only presidents I had to knows Polk in elementary school were Washington and Lincoln--not Madison, Jackson, or. Why?...because they were the revolutionary, symbolic ones that were romanticized to young Children. Be chirped answers about this: your great, great, great grandchild will have to give to these questions regarding US presidents: 1) who was the first president? 2) because president freed the slaves? 3) who was the first African American president? Pretty powerful, and it should make us appreciate the time period and history we're living. "The Promise" captures a significant portion of that History.

Hours (Kindle Edition)

61 Hours is a good, solid Jack Reacher novel. It's not One of impetus the all time greats, but it's very far from being the worst either. It has and unexpected twists and the tension builds slowly but steadily to a gripping ending. Lee Child seems to have took on board some of the criticisms lobbied at his recent books. Reacher does not display unbelievable deductive powers, he doesn't bed any women in improbable circumstances and he doesn't always get things right. The book is set in freezing South Dakota in the middle of a snowstorm. Reacher has hitched a ride on a bus tour of greater citizens. When the bus crashes, he finds himself in Bolton, the location for the metanfetamina a recently built prison and headquarters for a gang of dealers. A drug dealer is in prison, facing trial, and the chief one the key witness is under police protection. The deputy of police asks Reacher to help him figure out what's going in and to keep the witness safe. From the book's outset we are counting down 61 hours to a major event, although it is some time before it becomes clear what that will be.One of the things I particularly liked was the way that we the learn more about Reacher's army background, personal history and appearance than we the have to date. He develops a relationship that is his most honest and open in a long time. As usual, he is able to sees things and reach conclusions that the local police can't. In the words of one character, he's "the sort of guy who sees world things five seconds before the rest of the". Readers should be aware that this is the first Reads Child book that is not entirely self-contained. It ends with a cliff hanger and the words "to be continued". If you don't want a five month gap between installments, you may choose to wait to read this closer to the release date of the next book later in the year (it's due October 19).

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program

() As a long-time Lucas Davenport devotee, I am Always happy to drop in on him and his family and associates. I was particularly looking forward to "Storm Prey" which was described as "superb" by one pre-publication reviewer. The actual book was a let-down. Don't get me done -- I admire the consistent quality of Sandford's work, and the that he has not moved into that "I don't have to make any effort wrong already" space so common with bestselling authors (see, DeMille's "Wildfire" for a horrible example). But this time it all seemed to much the same to me. Some baddies do something bad. We know who they are but Davenport does not, at first. We know the story will begin thus, but in the past it has been Davenport's path to identifying the criminals that made that of of "enigma" story fascinating (that and the regular characters, who remain fascinating). But here the is too easy and the baddies too uninteresting. It really takes Davenport no at all to identify the malefactors, and it's splits time all the luck. Where's the fun in that? the "Aha" moments? In addition, I would really enjoy a villain who is neither an unraveling psychopath nor a big dumb psychopath. You know, someone who might challenge Davenport, rather than that is caught because he leaves an ever-widening swath of blood behind him. All of the over does not mean I did not enjoy "Storm Prey" -- I did. But I would not call it "superb" by any signifies, or anywhere near Sandford's best work.

Fever Dream (Hardcover)

In "Fever Dream" by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston, The Agent Aloysius Pendergast is faced with an impossible task--solving special that the mysterious murder of his wife Helen Easterhazy, a medical researcher, who is ferociously eaten per years a lion during their African safari after somebody, loads her gun with blanks. Twelve later, Pendergast must re-trace the events of that fateful safari and pinpoint Helen's enemies. As Pendergast starts the investigation, with the help of NYPD Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta, he realizes that he never really knew his wife. Returning to Africa, he learns that the lion that ate her was an elaborate set-up and THE MAYORIA of THE of the people involved in the original safari have since passed. Back in James Audubon and D'Agosta learn of Helen's mysterious obsession with famous painter John was of Pendergast and his masterpiece known as the Black Frame. The painting America, never destinies found, and Audubon's life ended in madness. As he starts interviewing people from Helen's scary learns of her involvement in Project Aves and the it of Pendergast of all those who were a part of past,. While Pendergast struggles to find the painting and trace Audubon's connection, the murders start. This book boasts a whole cast of creepy characters, but this Pendergast only enhanced the story. One of the people most close surrounding of Helen turns out to be a traitor, while almost everyone to -- inclusive Greene his servant Maurice, have ulterior motives. Then there's Pendergast's guardianship of Constance, a young woman who descends into madness and creates a fascinating subplot. In general terms, I thought the story was pretty captivating. I liked the exotic safari setting, and the ending which has a `to-be-continued' vibe about it. The story really book becomes interesting during the latter half of the, and is hard to put down at the end. A lot of themes is touched upon, which I won't give away, but suffice to say that the plot reads like a mystery novel.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program

() This account of the war in Afghanistan rather reminds me of When some left-wing reporter was sent to cover a conservative conference and wound up producing unintentionally-funny prose which spoke far more of the pathological insularity of the Left than the state of the Right. You can always tell when an outsider tries to cover something alien to them as their accounts invariably resemble works of anthropology. That is the Storm case with Junger's book---highly disappointing as "The Perfect" managed to draw readers into the world of fishermen so effectively.Junger keeps the men he covers at arm's length here. Having had the privilege of serving myself for some 9 years, while also having studied military history extensively, one great truth I am sure of: soldiers in a combat zone talk about something but war. They do so because they are invariably I breathe stationed in hellholes. They do so because they're steeped in it and want a from it. They do so because the boredom drives you mad otherwise. A duplicity indicator that Junger was kept out of the (as opposed to, say, Michael Yon, who gets American troops on the record all the time, no doubt in part because he was Spec Ops himself) is how counts few of these moments make it into his. Indications of his bias against the war and against those who fight it may be found in the fact that those few which make in are the most scandalous. You won't learn much about the war in Afghanistan here. Junger gives precious little information as to why the firebases in question are important, as to how the war is ebbing and flowing, like doctrine to the impact of a larger military footprint and revised counterinsurgency are impacting operations on the ground. I suspect it is because he couldn't get anyone but the misfits to talk to him. He also doesn't seem to know much about his subject. It is thus narcissistic folly for him to title his book "War". He has nothing to say about war which hasn't been said better and in Technicolor by the hell Oliver Stone in his antiwar movies. War is, but the inability of modern Americans to understand it is even worse. We are recreating spartan society, where citizens fought and helots slaved to support them----only in reverse. It is a situation our enemies will not enable us to enjoy forlong.

Mom: A Celebration of Mothers from StoryCorps (Hardcover)

I just read this book on my commute to and from Work and was pleasantly surprised how reading these stories created the same Edition spine-tingling sensation I feel when I listen to the StoryCorps stories on Morning. The voices of each person in the book resonate loudly through each page and even in a crowded train I found myself smiling widely and holding back tears as I read on. It's a great Mother's Day gift, but also a great reminder of how special our relationships with our mom's truly are. Everyone owes have this book on their shelf.
